10 years ago my Pastor, while we lived in Durango told Austin and I a story a friend of his had told him the day before. He told us his friend was on a flight home and God kept putting it on his heart to share the gospel with the flight attendant. He pushed the thought aside but it kept returning. He finally got up from his seat and went to the back of the plane and shared with the lady attendant what God's Word has to say about how to have a relationship with God. She was dumbstruck and asked, "Why are you telling me this?" He told her how the Lord had lead him and she explained that he was the 6th person recently to tell her the same exact thing and she gave her life to Christ, right there on the plane. The next day was 9/11. My Pastors friend wondered if she was on one of the planes and did some research. She was. One of the nearly 3,000 people who died that day had surrendered her life to Jesus the day before because God is Sovereign and because someone shared what Scripture had to say about getting right with Him. God's word brings salvation.I've written before of a young Christian girl who was tricked and sold to a brothel. She was brutally tortured until she agree to serve clients (20-40 a day). 3 months she persevered through the torture but finally couldnt bear it any longer. So for the next 2 years she was raped multiple times a day. On the wall in her room she etched, "The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life-of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear, though war break out against me, even then I will be confident." Psalm 27:1-3 She found comfort in God's Word. She had the gift of God's Word in her own language that was written on her heart. The Lord used international justice mission to rescue this girl and as a result a team went in and raided the brothel, rescuing 20 other girls. Now she clings to, Psalm 10:17-18 "You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them and you listen to their cry defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror.” Ps. 119:50 says, “this is my comfort in my affliction that your word has revived me…”God’s Word comforted Elizabeth. And if His Word is able to comfort her, surley it can comfort all others. God’s Word comforts us by showing us what is true. It shows us God’s heart and God’s ability. God's Word gives us comfort that leads to hope, which gives us strength, confidence, eternal perspective, peace, perseverance and courage. Just like Job who was only comforted by one thing after loosing everything, God’s very Word. (Job 38-39) God's word bring comfort. We are incredibly privledged to live here, now, having access to God's Word in our very own language. That we can experience the power of the Holy Spirit through the living and active word of God. I want my kids to value that. I want them to sense the gift of having God's Word. One Verse has a pretty cool tool that will help foster this in our kids. And guess what... it's free! "This FREE interactive and online parent resource from OneVerse* will help you engage your children in the story of the Bible from creation to the early church. You and your family will experience the Bible through the power of storytelling. Together you will learn how to prepare and tell Bible stories that come alive! We recommend you start with the 10-week Old Testament program to begin with the story of Creation. The 10-week New Testament program begins with the story of the birth of Christ. Each week, you'll receive links to a new Bible story along with resources for children — vocabulary builders, challenge questions, fun games, downloadable worksheets, team activities and more. Plus, you'll hear about people around the world who don't have the written Word of God in their own language, but are learning God's Word through story telling. For the ambitious, each Bible story is accompanied by five lessons — 50 lessons total — making them perfect for a daily summer-time activity. And it's all FREE as part of our OneVerse ministry to you." 2 They also have VBS material which I think would be awesome to use during the school year with the kids. It's filled with interactive visionary things to help bring perspective on God's word and it's value, like this: So excited about these resources. Hope they are a blessing to you! #211 Discovering the great resources from One Verse

Wow, Laura, both stories are so convicting. The power that God gives his believers to persevere and survive. And the miracles he bestows on all of us.

I want to be listening and obedient to the Holy Spirit, too. Thanks for sharing this story.
