Who gets your best? The best of your time, thoughts, energy, talents and skills? Generally we live in a culture that gives the best to people who deserve it or have earned it somehow. Or gives the best to those who we can get something from whether it be reputation, affirmation, promotion etc. So how incredibly shocking that the Lord, the Creator of the universe, the star-breathing God who fashioned our cells, chooses to give His best to us. The best of His imagination making crazy creatures. The best of His beauty by painting the sky and creating rivers and oceans. The best of His strength by putting His Holy Spirit inside believers enabling them to live victorious over sin. The best of His comfort and love and a thousand other things. And even giving Himself, the Best over all. Can there be any bigger generosity than a God who deserves perfection and gets so much less yet gives all He has?! Psalm 103 tells us to "Forget not all his benefits" and then goes on through the entire chapter telling us what some of His benefits are: He gives forgiveness and healing, redemption and victory, satisfaction and strength. He gives justice and righteousness and makes His ways known. And how comforting to know that God's characteristic of being generous is not based on our deserving. In light of Him, what does that make us?Recipients. We came into this world with nothing and we will leave the same way. Everything we have is a gift from the Giver of good gifts. How would living daily life convinced we are recipients of God's generosity effect your thought life? Actions? Feelings? Such great thoughts...shouldn't this make us generous with everyone because we are the recipients of such generosity? And shouldn't it make us wildly generous with God Himself? I know I need work in both those areas, but I'm so grateful for God's generosity toward me. Thanks for reminding me of it.

Dear Laura, I'm so sorry. I linked up a post that I'd already linked last week by mistake. Feel free to delete it (#19). Sorry about that.

How has the conviction that we are recipients of God's generosity changed my daily thoughts and life? Most recently, I am reminded almost constantly that anything I do well, I do because God gave me the ability to do it. If I contribute anything, it is only the willingness to say 'yes' to Him.

I was reminded of a missionary long ago, who told of receiving a gift of tea. Inside was a note that said, "These tea bags have only been used once!" I do hope that we are treating our missionaries better these days.
