"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone." Colossians 4:2-6

My markings toward One Thousand Gifts
My Pastor Jim sharing great insights about this verse.
*"Making the most of every opportunity" is like coming along a great sale at a grocery store and buying it out
    completely.
 * It could be that the reason we are not active in sharing our faith because we are not thankful.
 * Pray for opportunities and pray for people to live as sent ones.
 * We don't have to make the gospel attractive, it already is. But we can make it unattractive.
 * If sharing the gospel was easy and only reserved for those it came naturally, why would Paul ask for prayer?

Those who died fighting for our freedom and those like my grandma and grandpa who served in the military.

My husband and his team are in the middle east to take the best news in the world to the people there. At the last minute they decided to stay somewhere other than the hotel they had booked. That hotel was just bombed. What a gift that I am not making funeral arrangements right now.

I have been so overwhelmed by the support from facebook friends and those I see in daily life. I love seeing believers stick together with one purpose of glorifying God. The bond even though we don't agree on everything is so beautiful.

The Top 25 Faith Blogs by moms contest that is keeping many dependant on the Lord and providing an outlet to "make the most."

For God's Word that is alive and active which reminds us this world is not all there is.

God's Word that give us something to trust since our feelings and experiences are not reliable in showing us what's true.

God giving us reasons we can trust His Word through science, textual transmission, history and my favorite, prophecy. Read more here.

Blessings and safety to you and your husband, Laura! I'm grateful for you that he is all right, and I hope he is returned safely to you!

I'm curious - why is it that you say that our experiences are not reliable? I've heard the argument that feelings are not reliable - whether or not I agree with it is neither here nor there - but I'm wondering what your reasoning is for saying we can't trust what we've experienced? Experience is the major building block of our own personal points of view - it's a huge part of what makes us, us.

:)

Brightest blessings,

Rowan

Whoa! Laura I remember when we were at your house, Austin was on the phone making those final plans or talking about those final plans about not staying at the hotel! Praise God... I'm almost in tears! How ya doin'?

Thank you Rowan. He gets home in 1 more week (which seems like eternity when you have 3 kids under 3.5).

Also, just want to let you know that I really appreciate how you communicate and how you think.

Well, my thoughts about experiences... I think both feelings and experiences are valid and are a gift from God. But I think as a source of figuring out what is ultimatly true, they can just be a bit flaky, misunderstood, misinterpreted or forgotten. I think that is why in court 2 or more witnesses is best since we can be mistaken or can only see part of the picture. We tend to see things the way we want to. But I totally agree that experiences are a huge element of what make us who we are.

Hope you have a great day.

Rhonda, (or should I call you Rhonday?) Thanks for asking. Parts of days are good, other parts... not so good. Sure helps me understand more about the good bad split from Changes that Heal. :)

Whew! That would seem like forever to me and I don't have ANY kids. You've got my prayers and well wishes, no doubt!

I can see the truth in that. Being wise about what you perceive is good advice in any situation. I know I've needed a reality check more than once in my life. I guess I was thinking that there comes a point where you can only question yourself so much before you go crazy. We've got eyes and ears for a reason, right?

:D Anyway, thanks for answering my question, and I appreciate you as well! We can't get to know and understand one another unless we communicate, and I'm glad that we can. :D

Brightest Blessings,

Rowan

Love those verses in Colossians! And so thankful to hear of God's protection over your husband and the others, and for their following His leading in staying at a different location than the hotel they had booked.
