Revolutionary Road

So, I saw the movie Revolutionary Road. It seems to be a very well painted picture of reality in America. The couple is looking for life. They want to live, they are not wanting the status quo of the American dream. They desire to do something that actually fulfills them. The movie is about their striving to find life…

It made me think of how this truly is the striving of all mankind since our greatest needs are to love and be loved and feel worthwhile to self and others. And the Great Commission is a gift to bring that very thing. We exist to glorify God-to know Him and make Him known. And the most strategic way to do that is through the Great Commission-evangelism and discipleship. This was Jesus’ example. To see people come to salvation that they would see God as He truly is. 

“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory…” Jn 17:24, 

“I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” Jn 12:44-46

Loving God (Greatest commandment), takes knowing God. So, sharing our faith (and developing others to do the same)… the Great Commission is actually helping people love God… delight in Him because they see Him as He is. 

What a privilege to get to be part of helping people like the characters in Revolutionary Road find real true Life. To find what they desperately are looking for. Getting plugged into the action of the Great Commission will let them sense the satisfaction of loving and being loved and feeling (based on truth) worthwhile to self and others. What a gift God has given us in Commissioning us!
