No Way!

So I got this email.
Sometime you gets ones that confuse you, encourage you, disappoint you or make you angry. But this one... made me scream and run around with joy. Here it is:

"Just thought you would be excited to hear that a large group of women will be going through your Bible Study this fall in SAUDI ARABIA!

How cool is that??  My good friend Rebecca Allen, who is Canadian, led a house Bible Study the semester I was there and has such a neat gifting for hospitality and encouragement.  The group has always done a Beth Moore study (which is still SUPER legit) but were looking for a change so I suggested she check out Beholding Him. 

The group of women studying together is probably similar to when I was there so you can expect women from Mexico, China, Uganda, Nigeria, Canada, America, South Korea, England, and possibly Arab countries to be going through it!

Praying it is used in major ways for the Kingdom there and that the study gets passed around the country!"

Wow huh!! This is from my dear friend Carly who is used by God to be a blessing that just keeps blessing! So in light of this, thought I would share a little exerpt from the book.

Cloud of Witnesses
When Austin was a sophomore in high school his older sister, Heather went on a missions trip to Africa.  Austin’s parents thought it would be a good experience for him to experience a different culture so they let him take 2 weeks off of school to go join Heather after her missions trip to travel around the country a bit.  Austin was not a believer at the time, so he was more interested in seeing mount Kilimanjaro and gorillas than being a part of what God was doing there. While they were driving through the vast country of Tanzania, the military truck they were riding in the back of got in an accident and tipped over. It was dark and they were in the middle of nowhere with nobody who spoke English. Native Africans had heard the impact noise and were coming out of the woods. There were no cell phones, no 911, so there is no help on the way. Amidst the chaos, a truck pulls up and in a rough translation of Swahili, a man says he will take the worst injured to the nearest doctor. Austin’s arm and leg were bleeding and Heather had a bump on her forehead the size of half a golf ball. They jump in the truck with two other African guys. One of the guys had his foot hanging on by only a bit of skin and the other was bleeding from his mouth.

As they are in this truck Heather starts talking about how it could be possible that this guy could be taking them away to beat them up and take their money, or that this doctor they are going to could be a witch doctor.  She goes on to tell of what she has seen in African hospitals and how even if it was a good doctor, most African hospitals are not sanitary. They will stick a needle in one person and then in someone else.

At that time Austin was looking up at the stars and a peace which he had never experienced washed over him.  He knew they would be ok. He said to Heather, “We are going to be ok.”  She said, “yeah, I think so.”  “No, I know we are.” 

After about a short 15 minute drive, they pull up to a one story building. Austin jumps out and knocks on the door. A white guy opens the door and has and Indiana shirt on. Austin was shocked and asked if they spoke English. The guy said yes, so Austin rushed through telling him of the accident and injuries. The guy said, “Wait a minute, sit down. It looks like you have a broken leg.” Austin asked how he knew and the guys said, “We are missionary doctors from Indiana, if you were to get in an accident in this country, this is the best place you could be.”

Impossible situations have a way of giving God a chance to shine, to show off for that matter. Just when we think there is no way out, or no way for things to work out or no rescue coming, God steps in and comes through to save the day.

This week we are going to see how God has come through in situations where He feels far away, in situations caused by our own sin and in unlikely situations.
