A few minutes ago our three-year-old son brought me my Bible to read from before naptime. I thought something from Psalms would be good to read to him and my two-year-old daughter so I opened up to that part of the Bible and ended up turning to Psalms 139. I love this Psalms and it was awesome reading it to such young children because it made me think about and explain it in a way I hadn’t done before. I love how it is full of verses explaining how much God knows EVERY detail about our lives, even though it shows clearly that my life has never been just about me whatsoever! It is TOTALLY about my Father in heaven who created me and who had a plan from the beginning! I’ve always loved verses 13 to 18. They say, “For you formed my inward parts; It makes me so sad when I talk to people who don’t see God as a relational God. I don’t understand how anyone can read something like this and not see Him in this way. I mean, seriously! God is the one who “formed” us and “knit us together in our mother’s womb”! We were “intricately woven” and even before we were born God had written out the days that we were made to live! How awesome is that? The love that God has shown us just be doing this is amazing! It’s sad to think how much our sin has messed up our thinking about God. Now we are born and almost right away we begin acting and talking like our life is all our own. We follow the dreams WE have and make any changes WE want instead of realizing that from the very beginning of our existence, even before birth, God has been the one at work, He is the one that has planned out our lives and He is the one who is to be glorified! It was a good reminder for me as I read this chapter in more “simple” terms to my children that I should be living in a way that acknowledges God having a plan for my life and my children’s lives. If He has written down my days and knows me inside out then who would be better to go to for decision-making and for day-to-day questions as I live my life as a mother, wife, and someone in ministry? I know it would definitely take away much of the stress that comes when I try to figure out everything myself in the process of living MY life and not God’s plans through me!
