I'm so glad you are here! I hope during your visit you get a glimpse of God's heart for we become what we are gazing at. Currently I am writing my way through Judges sharing glimpses of God's heart and character for a weekday devotional. To check out the entire series so far head on over the the Judges Devotional. And if you blog, come on over on Friday's for a blog link up. "They named it Dan after their forefather Dan, who was born to Israel--though the city used to be called Laish. There the Danites set up for themselves the idols, and Jonathan son of Gershom, the son of Moses, and his sons were priests for the tribe of Dan until the time of the captivity of the land. They continued to use the idols Micah had made, all the time the house of God was in Shiloh." Judges 18:29-31 Do you know your great great grandma? I don't, and really it wasn't that long ago. I have no idea if she was a believer or what she was passionate about. Heck, I don't even know how many kids she had or her name for that matter. I want to leave a legacy. I want to raise godly kids that love the Lord, walk with Him and live for Him. I would be so sad if the kids I poured my life into lived only for themselves and their idols like the Danites. Sadness I can imagine Moses and Joshua would have felt if they were here to see the disgrace of these guys. But really we can't control anyone, even our kids. There is no guarantee that if I raise them in a godly way that they will never pull a Danite. Look at the perfect example, Jesus. He loves us perfectly and does everything that is best for us. He's the parent without flaw and still so many walk away from Him. I want my kids to walk with Jesus. And I want their kids and their kids (if Jesus doesn't come back before then) and so on to love Jesus and live for Him too. But I can't control that. What I can do is walk in the strength of the Holy Spirit and do the best I can with what He's given me. But I can have a legacy guarantee another way. If I am active in sharing my faith, and someone puts their trust in Christ, there will be everlasting fruit. Wow! God says He appointed us to go (take initiative) and bear fruit, the fruit that remains. (John 15:16) Are you investing in your spiritual heritage as much as your earthly heritage? Why or why not? If you need some encouragement check out some helpful resources. Did you know that only 2% of American Christians share their faith. Ouch! Maybe it's time for a heart/reality check? I don't know my great great grandma. And I don't know if I will get to meet her in heaven. I also don't know my great great spiritual parent. I know Pastor Norm, the man who led me to Christ. He is now he is in heaven and one day, guaranteed, I will meet the person who led him to Christ and the person that led that person to Christ. And I will get to hear their story, and what a story I bet it is! Why not take initiative today to invest in eternity? What would that look like for you? Yes, that IS the only way to leave a legacy and I certainly hope I leave some legacies of faith. I've been thinking about this as my pastor told a story on Sunday about a woman named Edith who always asked people about Easter everyday. "Hi, I'm Edith, what do you believe about Easter?" How can I live in such a way that I share the Gospel on a regular basis?
