Leaders loving but...

Ok, in Exodus 5 and Pharoh freaks out from Moses and Aaron telling him to let the Israelites go and makes it so that the Israelites have to make as many bricks as before but will not be given straw anymore but have to go get it themselves. And if they dont meet thier quota, they are beaten. The Israelite overseers obviously care about the people and want to act in the peoples best interest. So they go to Pharoah, which seems pretty bold to me, and ask him to lighten the load. Pharoah says no and of course they are then discouraged. They run into Moses and Aaron and take out thier frusteration on them... the ones who they think made things worse. The overseers wanted to help the problem they saw. Seems like a neat heart... but without faith, without dependance on God and a bigger perspective... does it really help?

Moses and Aaron also cared about the people. But it seems they cared more about obedience than relieving the pain that they saw people were experiencing. (We know from chap. 6 that it made Moses very sad to see it though... but not at the cost of not obeying God.) But rather than just try to solve the problem at hand... the 'what was seen' problem, they walked by faith in what God had told them. That He was going to rescue the people. Completely, not just to lighten thier load. (I wonder how often God is wanting to do so much bigger than we can think and we get upset like the overseers as we do our own thing and think God doesnt care.) Moses and Aaron, unlike the Israelite overseers had met with God and as a result trusted Him with more than just what was seen.

Do I react to what I see by putting my trust in what I can do to solve the situation or do I turn to God and ask Him to show me what He is going to do and ask Him how I can be of service to Him?

5:21 the overseers say to Moses and Aaron, "May the Lord look on you and judge you." Wow! They were totally missing it, though thier intentions were good. They were so caught up in how they were going to fix the problem that they werent even able to see God's perspective, or even recognize He was the one that was leading Moses and Aaron.

Oh how desperate we are to walk with God!

CHAPTER 6- God is our Rescuer... And dont I know this!!

For a few days now, I cant get this picture out of my head of the girl in Braveheart... the one at the begining who is about to be killed by the soldier and is looking to the hills for her groom to come save her. She had hope. But the reality of it was, men fail. But Jesus does not. We can look to the hills and will eventually see Him come to our rescue.

In Chap. 6 it is so sad. The people are despaired... to the point of no hope. They arnt looking to the hills for thier Savior. But He does come through for them... they dont have to despair. He does rescue them. Let us not be discouraged, our God is mighty to save. Let us put our hope in God!
