"During the reign of David, there was a famine for three successive years; so David sought the face of the Lord. The Lord said, 'It is on account of Saul and his blood-stained house; it is because he put the Gibeonites to death." 2 Sam. 21:1 Saul had been dead over 30 years! The Gibeonites had lived with injustice for a long time. But our God is not a God who forgets. He is the Ancient of Days-the One who sits as Judge throughout time. He waited for the right time to bring justice for the Gibeonites (Saul had broke the vow made in Joshuas day-Josh 9, 10 and was trying to wipe them out. Think genocide.) Suffering gives perspective. Look at the Gibeonites crazy awesome attitudes. As a way to honor them, David offered to give them gold and silver but they wouldn't take it. They knew they were servants and foriegners in the land. Wow! We too are foreigners, our real home is heaven. But how easy it is to get sucked in to thinking this place is our home by accumulating "stuff". Don't you think they would have an "I deserve" mentality? "You really treated us like... well, really bad. We deserve..." But they don't. In fact it is just the opposite, "We have no right to dmand silver or goald from Saul or his family..." Beautiful! Oh Lord. Please help us have attitudes like these people, not having "I deserve" attitudes or living as though this is our all. We desire to please You but know we can't do even that apart from Your strength and ability. We submit to You Lord and invite You to do as You desire in and through us today. Thank you, Laura! What a great reminder to live in the moment, not demanding, not wanting more, but just fully enjoying what God has given to us for the present time.
