I'm so glad you are here! I hope during your visit you get a glimpse of God's heart for we become what we are gazing at. Currently I am writing my way through Judges sharing glimpses of God's heart and character for a weekday devotional. To check out the entire series so far head on over the the Judges Devotional. "(The Benjamites heard that the Israelites had gone up to Mizpah.) Then the Israelites said, "Tell us how this awful thing happened." So the Levite, the husband of the murdered woman, said, "I and my concubine came to Gibeah in Benjamin to spend the night. During the night the men of Gibeah came after me and surrounded the house, intending to kill me. They raped my concubine, and she died. I took my concubine, cut her into pieces and sent one piece to each region of Israel's inheritance, because they committed this lewd and disgraceful act in Israel. Now, all you Israelites, speak up and give your verdict." All the people rose as one man, saying, "None of us will go home. No, not one of us will return to his house. But now this is what we'll do to Gibeah: We'll go up against it as the lot directs. We'll take ten men out of every hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred from a thousand, and a thousand from ten thousand, to get provisions for the army. Then, when the army arrives at Gibeah in Benjamin, it can give them what they deserve for all this vileness done in Israel." So all the men of Israel got together and united as one man against the city." Judges 20:3-11 Did you get a chance to read The Dreaded Last Half? It shows how even this story offers us a glimpse of Jesus. And from the awfulness of this story the Israelites were rocked out of their passivity. I'm not sure if it's just me but there is just something about seeing a group of people Team Up and fight for whats right. It's like I just want to throw my arms around and wiggle and scream, "Yeah!" When I hear about what Agape International Missions is doing to fight the injustice of selling prepubescent girls for sex, it's like I want to scream for them in support like someone would at a football game. I love how the Israelites take action about the injustice of this lady's death as if it were their problem. They saw a horrific evil happening in their country and they finally got fet up and took action. There is a horrific evil happening here, in our country and precious few have gathered together to do something about it. I think because it's hard to talk about and because it's happening in secret. When I talk about this topic there is fear in the back of my mind. Fear of hurting, fear of coming off as condemning. But really, what if the Israelites thought that? Abortion will kill 120,000 babies today in our very own country. Why have we not gathered together, assembled as one to fight against the injustice of taking the life of a precious baby? And why are the mothers who have had abortions silent? Oh I wish they weren't. I wish their powerful testimonies came to surface, not left in the dark any longer being kept useless by Satan. If you are a believer and have had an abortion know that you are forgiven. You are still dearly loved and seen through the blood of Jesus. But also know that God wants to use your story for redemption. Please let Him. I have a friend who was in a women's bible study and one morning and it was on her heart to tell the group of 12 ladies she had an abortion. She was freaked out, so afraid of being judged but she pushed through the fear and it turned out 9 other ladies came forward saying they had had abortions too. The deep secrets eating away at dignity were brought to the light and now this girl has a pretty cool post abortion ministry. The Levite was responsible for his wife's death. He could have rescued her and he didn't. He let her die. But yet, he didn't let shame stop him from gathering others to stop the problem. He used his circumstances to bring about change, to bring justice. There are people gathering at Mizpah so to speak on this issue. Personhood is gathering signatures right now to get on the ballot again. Personhood is stinkin awesome. It is defining the pre-born baby a person and therefore deserving of inalienable rights, like the right to life. What does it take to motivate you? Does it take getting a arm on your doorstep to move you to take action? How are you going to be part of the battle against injustice and say No More!? Have you subscribed? Wow. 120,000 abortions per day. 5,000 every hour. More than 83 every minute! That really puts the problem into perspective. I love the idea of defining the pre-born as a person. There is nothing magical about passing through the birth canal that turns a "fetus" into a human being. With medical advances we can often save a baby who is born prematurely during the second trimester of pregnancy. You can be charged with murder if you injure a pregnant woman and cause her to lose her baby. Yet, abortion is legal for the entire 9 months, That has to change.

God must Judge America as he did the nations who placed their babies on the hot alter to their false gods. May we repent as a nation.

There are countries that have legalized abortion. I'm thanking God that it's still illegal in our country, but that doesn't stop the act committed secretly. It's not only abortion that is the problem of the world. There is rape (just what was committed against the Levite's concubine and killed her), murder, etc.

"What will it take to motivate you?" What a piercing question -- and it's right that it pierces us (me). I agree with the previous commenter: our only hope is the Gospel of Christ. I'll take this charge with me throughout my day - and far beyond. Thanks!

Recently, I wrote about my own story and how God met me as a pregnant teenager. By His grace, I did not choose abortion, but adoption. As a result of bringing this very tender story to light, I was contacted by another woman who had a similar story and we have been able to minister to each other . . . binding up each other's wounds and pointing to the Healer. Your example here of the woman who was brave enough to uncover the abortion of her past reminded me of the unique ministry one hurting person can have to another who is nursing their own wounds.

Thank you, Laura, for speaking up on this heartbreaking issue. Just as nations who sacrificed infants to Baal were judged, so will be countries who condone abortion. In today's upside-down morality, trees and rodents in danger of extinction must be saved, but babies are sacrificed on the altar of convenience.

Powerful post, Laura. I have been thinking about the babies so much lately...about these "orphans" whose parents don't only "give them up" but literally throw them in a trash can. The least of these...they are the ones who are greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. Yes, we MUST speak up for them.

AND I love this sculpture--the element of FORGIVENESS that is there in the tenderness of the child's spirit, the reminder of God's REDEMPTION and the way He loves all of us, even in spite of the ways we break his heart and hurt each other.

What an incredible post, Laura! Your heart for injustice is apparent, as it is for those who've sinned and want restoration. I'm passionate about abortion, also. I'm definitely going to check out the Personhood website. (I love your writing style, by the way!)
