In 2004 my doctor found a lump in my throat. They took two biopsies (a giant needle in my throat!) and found it to be thyroid cancer. A couple days later I went in to have my thyroid removed. Afterward I would have to start radiation via a pill. When I woke up after the surgery the doctor came in and said, "Good news. It wasn't cancer." Now I'm not sure how someone is suppose to react to that but as I was not fully myself with all the drugs in my system, I was so confused on if I should be happy that I didn't have to go through radiation or frustrated since it seemed someone had made a mistake and now 1/2 my very important organ was missing. Or did God heal me? So all I could do is say, "Ok." To this day I take a significant amount of thyroid medicine (since the other half of my thyroid cannot survive and will die at some point.) But since I also have a very poor memory I forget to go to the doctor to make sure the levels are ok. When I found out I was pregnant they had to test my thyroid levels and they are WAY out of whack which explains my extreme tiredness. I am finally through with my first trimester and the doctor finally increased my thyroid medicine to a level that will probably cause my energy to return. It just takes 2-6 weeks. So rather than writing today, since I am overly exhausted, I would like to ask for your prayers. Prayers for the Lord to give me the energy I need to be the wife, mother and missionary the Lord has called me to be. And for me to embrace this season and see God's grace be sufficient. And please pray my energy comes back sooner that I think it will. Thank you for your patience and kindness sweet friends! Oh, Laura! I have mixed emotions with your news. I'm in the verge of tears (of joy!) because you are PREGNANT - finally! But sad because you're feeling all this tiredness. Will be praying for you, that you'll be up and about soon. Be safe and comfortable in Him.

Thank you so much Joe! It's weird to be a place where I don't feel like I have a choice to rest... not really a place I've been before so I want to embrace what the Lord has for me in this season. Since it is pretty hard for me normally to slow down.

How wonderful that it wasn't cancer! When wondering about such things as divine healing, I always say why not give God the credit! Miracle do still happen! Congratulations on your new little one to come. Praying for your energy levels to regulate and that you'll have a comfortable pregnancy!

Laura- I pray that you will hear the Savior beckoning...Come to me all who are weary and I will give you REST...you have His permission to be right where you are... tired because of the work of carrying a child and weary because you are human living in a body that needs supernatural strength to rest and love and live...thank you for this place to renew our faith and also thank you for linking up the body of Christ.

Laura, thinking of you and praying for you during this time of extreme tiredness - and thanks for all the ways you bless others through your blog! Let yourself go slower for this season (if that is possible as a mom, wife, and missionary!) ... sending love and prayers for you.

Laura, so glad you shared what is happening - I was reading through the comments and saw something about being in a place of forced rest...and it struck me that the Lord is teaching you about the importance and depth of rest in His terms, according to His definition...so I say "Embrace this time, let Him teach you - and then share what He is teaching you here at Beholding Glory"...I would love to read what He is doing...

Congrats on the pregnancy! My sister had thyroid cancer about 15 years ago and had her thyroid removed. She had several rough years trying to get adjusted to the replacement medications. I'm praying for you, Laura.

Laura, first CONGRATULATIONS! So happy for you!! I will pray for you! I have 2 dear friends who both went through thyroid surgeries, so I understand (from them) the challenges with the medications AND tiredness. Both of them seem to have it dialed in fairly well right now, but stay on top of those levels, girl! :-)
