Eternal (Wrapped in Grace)

Hi. I am so glad you found your way to my little corner on this massive web. Hope you are encouraged while you are here. I just started a new series called Wrapped in Grace talking about what God is like and therefore who we are. I have recently done series on Using Social Media to Glorify God, Heaven and creation showing us what God is like. And if you blog, come on by on Friday and link up a post for Faith Filled Friday.

Eternal

Yesterday I couldn't get by without touching on my very favorite attribute of God, His eternalness. God has no beginning and no end. And as if Him always existing isn't mind blowing enough, that means everything about Him is also without end. If we studied and made a giant list of the attributes of God for the rest of our days on earth, we would never come to the end of all His attributes. Even if we added to our list of the attributes of God for all eternity, we would still never come to the end. Wow!

And then, say we take just one attribute, like His compassion, and we spend our entire life studying, learning, discovering all there was to know about His compassion, we would never know all there was to know about His compassion, just 1 of God's attributes. Even if we studied and discovered and learned about His compassion for all eternity, we'd never know all there is to know about God's compassion.

Do you feel small? I think that is God's point. For when we feel small and see God as big it makes way for Him show off through us.

God's vastness is overwhelming, but so exciting! That means that we will always have something amazing to learn. We will never run out of ah-ha moments (Something I think I may be addicted to. Is that bad?) There is a poem that I just love where part of it says it so well, "Just when I think I know your complexities, you step into the light." We need to be wow-ed off our feet to our knees. We need to be put in our place of how big, and awesome and incredible God is, and how we are the work of His hands. We are just not it, He is! And just because we will never know all there is to know about God, that doesn't mean He hasn't shown us somethings about Himself. And it sure doesn't mean we shouldn't pursue Him. For there is always more to learn!

What does that make us?

So God is eternal and everything about Him, mind blowing. That means the work of His hands is eternal. Genesis gives the account of God creating beauty. His beauty was to last forever until sin (not from Him) entered the picture and stole life. What grace to kick Adam and Eve out of the garden so they wouldn't eat from the Tree of Life resulting in the world staying in this condition. Anyway, my point is that He made us and we are eternal beings. We are made up of three parts; body, soul and spirit. Did you know that all three parts of us are eternal? Our body is wearing out but will be made complete in heaven (reserved for those who trust Jesus' perfection instead of their own). Our spirit that is being renewed day by day for the Christian. And our soul, which is our mind, will, emotions, affections and personality will last forever. It is being made more like Jesus everyday for the believer, but will be totally made whole when we arrive home.

We are eternal. This little life is just a speck on a very, very long line of life and what we do today will echo through eternity. This is our split second to invest our time, talents and treasure in what will be the biggest and best return there is in this life. These precious few years are the only ones we have to go all in and go big for Jesus because for real, it is going to be worth it!

How would living like you're an eternal being affect your day to day life?

I love how you presented the eternalness of God and the infinitude of His attributes. I never cease being astounded at how in His enormity He yet created such tiny dots as we are as expressions of His image, objects of His love, and capable of experiencing His presence and fellowshiping with Him, even now in our earthly limitations. But He is so all-knowing and all-loving and all-reaching that for Him it's not only possible, it's only fitting with all He is.
Mind-blowing. We can't even wrap our thoughts adequately around such huge stuff. And then to be wrapped in His grace... What can I say? Just whisper a breathless wow!

Go big or stay home...those are the words I would hear my Dad say when we would play cards. With Jesus it's the same...but it's also "all in or all out". We can't just play at this Christian thing. That is what living life eternal is to me. Great post! :) Hopping from Internet Cafe Devotions.
