Confused by Shimei, but now I see Jesus!(& and fun experiment)So in 2nd Sam. there is this guy, Shemei. While David was fleeing from his son getting ready to try to overthrow his kingdom this guy starts ridiculing and throwing rocks at David, THE KING! David just takes it. His men want to get the man and put him in his place but David doesn't let them. I was totally confused. David, the super honoring, respecting authority because it's given by God man is letting this guy dishonor him, the king. He doesn't even communicate for goodness sake. "Hey man, that hurts.." I had all sorts of questions for the Lord. And today He finally answered my big one, "Why?" And get this, it totally is all about Jesus! Of course it would be, right?! David is a picture of Jesus when he let himself be ridiculed and cursed though he was king and didn't deserve it, knowing that ultimately the Lord was the one allowing it. He gave us a glimpse of the coming Messiah's character. After David is restored to the throne, (What a picture there of Jesus returning to heaven after being ridiculed and having rocks throw at him on earth on the way to the cross!) Shimei repents, he asks forgiveness and submits to David's leadership. And David doesn't give him what he deserves but shows mercy. We were all born Shimei's. Rejecting the King. And when we surrendered our life to Him, He freely gave mercy. Awesome! But then how easy it is to then have an I deserve attitude when things don't go as expected. I love how God's character can be seen in seemily confusing or small things! Oh that we would see more and more of Him and focus less and less on us. "He must become greater; I must become less." John 3:30 The Message says it this way, " This is the assigned moment for him to move into the center, while I slip off to the sidelines." So... introducing... The Not About Me November-ExperimentFor the month of November I am going to have a series where each post brings it back to the reality that it's not about us. Here are some of the topics so far: Suffering, Success, Emotions, Wisdom & Understanding, Family, Friends, Money, Blogging, Passions, Gifts, Body, Reputation, Mission, Nature, Personalities, and Experiences. It's an experiment to see how this influences thinking in the mundane things of life having the daily reminder that it's not about me. I would love for you to follow along. (You can subscribe on the side bar if that would help.) And... I'm wondering if you want to participate? I could put up linkys if you'd like to join in on the Not About Me November experiment. (You could use some of the topics listed or come up with your own.) What do you think? I'm linked with Favorite things friday and Spiritual Sunday's I would LOVE to partner with you in bragging on God. Just link up your posts that Brag On God and put a link to this list or put my button code (found under the Brag On God Fridays Tab) on your post for people to find these other great blogs bragging about the greatness of God. And, while you're at it, link up your posts that tell how awesome God is on the Permanent Brag On God Mosaic found under the Brag on God Friday's Link Up tab and help decorate the tab for the glory of God. (It will be up for at least 2 years of fun!) ** I fixed the linky over on the Brag on God Friday's tab-so if you tried before, go ahead and try again.

I'd love to participate. Starting Monday, I am starting a 31 day challenge and I will be writing on 31 days of depression! I think that will work for a topic :) Because I'm going to challenge my readers (and myself) to get out of themselves a bit :)

I knew the story about David but never associated it with Jesus. What a thought that Jesus never spoke back or got into a fight when they made fun of him and crucified him. Thanks for this insiteful post.

Thank you for allowing me to share my musings here. I always love the Old Testament Stories and King David in particular. He was a sinner/saint! Just like us.
