College students today don't remember life without the internet. Incredible yet terrifying. They have been exposed to more online media sexualization than any other generation before them and the effects are felt. Having been a missionary to college student since 2001, I thought I had heard it all. I was no longer shocked by the sin and darkness and I have seen Jesus rescue sweet ones from. But the last two weeks have been... I'm not even sure how to describe it. Jaw-dropping. More same-sex attraction, orgies and boundary breaking than any would imagine. My heart breaks. It's like satan's left hook. Sexual sin, sin against our own body leaving effects that echo for decades. Hardening a pure heart and the pure in heart are those that see God. My heart breaks. On the outside people see immodest dress, crazy hair, crudeness. The inside is a very different picture. Broken. The point isn't to try to fix the outside, for "from within the heart the mouth speaks". What is happening on the outside is but a reflection of the inside. We don't want to dress up the outside without letting Jesus clean the whole vessel. But just like in Cambodia, the darkest places the Lord shines the brightest. He plows right through the sin and brings forth beauty. Like Jesus in the womb, light breaks forth. God makes Himself famous. I am so grateful God led me to be reading through 2nd Samuel right now, so timely for the brokenness as a result of sin I see. I see the same thing in David. Sexual sin causing devestating effects. Death. But God! He wasnt surprized, He wasn't thrown off. Jesus was born from the line of Solomon, son of David and Bathsheba! The very relationship that was detestable God used to bring life to the world! What!?? No sin is too big, too awful, too horrifying that God can't make Himself famous through it. What hope for these broken students doing shameful acts. Jesus. The hope of the world. The more we see sin, the more we need to cling to the all-sufficient cross of Christ. Oh Lord, let us be people who see the heart and are willing to come along side and be vessels of restoration. Please gently lower the pointing fingers at these broken ones and instead be the ones to lay them on stretchers and carry them to the doctor, You. Heal Lord. Save, Rescue, Redeem, heal these broken-hearted and make Yourself famous through thier stories. Wow, just reading what you were saying about college students brought up so much. I have learned more about things I never needed to know about in the past few years that blows my mind and makes me sick :( Thank goodness for God's redemption. Thank goodness for those who go out and teach the truth to the broken. Thank you Lord! Thank you Laura for going into the places and helping those broken hearts learn the truth!

"But God". That says so much! Though sin seems to rule in the world breaking the spirits and souls of so many, God reigns. He is bigger, stronger, and wiser than any scheme the enemy may use to try to destroy us. Sin is rampant...but God is more so. But God loved us so much that He gave His one and only Son so that we might be saved. We could give up hope...but God is here - He is our hope.

Hi Laura - Reading this is very heart breaking and scary because my girls are that age. I truly believe that God makes the difference and nothing the devil does is too big for Him to squash. I pray with you for your college students and against the wiles of the devil. Blessings

Beautiful prayer! My deepest sentiments and desire exactly. In line with your topic this week, I'm also linking up my "Alabaster Box" article which touches on the same theme, aside from my latest posts.

Such a sobering post. Yet, even with all the facts there is hope. Your line, "But God," is absolutely right. And it serves as a reminder to me to get on my knees and pray for my children and for those college kids and for our world.

Powerful statement that "No sin is too big, too awful, too horrifying that God can't make Himself famous through it."

This is a sobering post and I thought the teens I know are exposed to a lot more than I ever was.. It will be a journey seeing them through college. And.. your absolutely right there isn't anything too big for God! I believe it and when we send praises and prayer up strong holds are loosed and blessings rain down. Love the work you do for His kingdom!

Oh how the Lord is showing us to see the grip of sin on others. It pains our soul as it pains His heart. What a wonderful post to remind us we are not to point fingers, but to show love, real love, and rather than point our fingers at them, point our finger to the One who can make their lives right. Thank you and God bless.

Satan loves to see young people (and others) sin, BUT GOD will work all things together for good for those that love Him, who are the called according to His purpose. God turns Satan's own strategies against him, the most dramatic example being Christ dying on the cross, engineered by Satan through entering Judas. Yet what Satan thought was God's greatest defeat was by far His greatest victory. Your blog is a blessing and I will follow it, and I invite you to follow mine, Saved by Grace:

Thank you, Laura, for sharing this insightful post. Things have changed so much since I was a teenager. They have changed so much just in the last 10 or 20 years. The only hope is Jesus Christ. His time is getting shorter and Satan is making the most of it. I'm so glad we know the end of the story. Otherwise, there would seem to be no hope.
