When I was eleven years old my friend invited me to her church to watch her in a play. While I was there I had an experience with the Lord that convinced me God was happy with me there. I went home and told my mom we needed to start going to church there. The first Sunday we went the Pastor approached me after the service and asked me if I had accepted Christ. I had no clue what he was saying but I believed in God so I figured that must be what he was asking. So after stammering around I said “Yeah, I think so.” He invited my mom and I to his office to talk more about it. Using Scripture he shared my desperate need for a Savior, and invited me to submit life to Christ and receive His forgiveness. That day I admit I was a sinner and asked the Lord to forgive me because of what Jesus did and surrendered my life to Him. That moment changed my life, forever. That moment I was transferred from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. I became a daughter of God. My eternal destiny changed and I was given a permanent comforter and teacher inside my body, the Holy Spirit. That morning I had no idea what was in store for me. I had no idea I would make the most important decision of my entire life that day, changing the course of not only my eternal destiny but my time on earth. What if that Pastor had not shared the gospel with me? He easily could have been scared off by what people would think of an older man talking with an eleven year old girl. Or it could have been easy to pawn me off on the youth pastor or the friend who invited me, thinking it was their responsibility to share the gospel with me. But he didn’t. He considered me valuable enough to share the most incredible news with me, a little, scared eleven year old girl. At that moment I was adopted as God’s daughter and was sealed with the Holy Spirit guaranteeing my inheritance as a child of God. The gift I was given through Christ was an irrevocable gift, a gift impossible to take away or for me to give back. After all, if by some impossible means, my newly found salvation could be taken away, it would show that all of my sin wasn’t really forgiven and that there really was something that could separate me from the love of God. But Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who had given them to me is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of my Fathers hand.” (John 10:27-29) What better gift than the gift of eternal life that can never be taken away from us!
