Overcoming Objections {But I'm Not Called}

I'm so glad you are here! I hope during your visit you get a glimpse of God's heart for we become what we are gazing at. I pray that God refreshes you and gives you readiness to persevere in what He has for you today.  My desire is to be a blessing to you in helping you know God more and make Him known so I've made theses Resources  and tools available to you and write a Weekday Devotional to provide insights from God's Word.

"But I'm not called"

Have you ever heard someone respond to, "Lets pray" with, "But I'm not called". Or someone not spending time reading God's Word or encouraging other believers because "they were not called". I haven't and I'm glad really.

Yet, when it comes to telling people about Christ, especially those who have never even had the opportunity to hear the name Jesus, especially when it comes to getting out of comfort zones I hear it constantly. Is that a coincidence? Does God really not call people to get out of comfort zones? Does God really not call people to go to the unreached? Because statistically almost every believer is saying God has told them not to.

Perhaps it's time to step back and evaluate if the saying, "But I'm not called" is really true, evaluate if it really is God or if it is our flesh.  So, what does being called mean? To be called means to be specifically commissioned. Set apart for a mission. So has God set you apart? Has He commissioned you with a special mission?  Yes! Wonderfully so! Incredible!

"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20

How amazing is that! It's right there in black and white. You don't have to wonder if your feelings and impressions or experiences are truly from God. You don't have to wonder if God really has called you. He wrote it down for you. He sure is great huh!!

It seems we have it backwards, thinking "I'll go if I'm called." When in reality God already called and is waiting for the response.  So really the question is not, "Am I called?" But "Lord, I know I'm called and I will go, where is it you want me?"

So What Now?

A great place to start is by intentionally aligning your heart to God's. Vision leaks. One day we can be totally convinced God wants us to Go and then next we are doubting. "Above everything else, guard your heart; for it is the source of life's consequences" Proverbs 4:23

A good way to keep the world and God's desire for us to be part of His mission in reaching the lost is by getting Operation World. A prayer guide to help you pray for the world a day at a time. And make regular visits to Joshua Project, an incredibly visionary site.
We constantly have to put before ourselves what's true and I hope this series will help you do that. I wont be updating this series everyday so will you take the button code (on the right) and paste it on your blog or website as a reminder to return.

I'm not good on this one.. or even great... but I'm starting to notice times when I should talk about God-- but don't. My goal is to actually work up the courage to just let the words come out (my husband is really good at this.. me not so much). At least I'm noticing opportunities now which I never did before-- which I count as a good start. And I have a burden now that I never had before... Thanks for this series, Laura.

Awesome! Noticing opportunities is such a big deal!

When I think about it as just finding out about someone it eases the pressure. Just ask questions and find out their story. What do they believe? Why? Peoples stories really are fascinating. When we seek to understand people feel loved and respected. And then you don't feel like your cramming something down someones throat and totally unsure of what to say. Because once you hear where they are coming from, the Lord leads you in what to say. Then you can just ask questions like, "Do you want to know how God revealed himself to me? (you're testimony), or "Do you want to know/have you heard what God said about how someone gets right with Him?' And I have found the more open you are with someone about your motives the better. If you feel scared or whatever you can tell them that. "I probably sound like a dork, but this is just a special thing to me and I want to tell people but don't want people to feel like I'm...." Another way to let them know your heart. :)

My husband is really good at just talking to people too. And I'm not so much, just too task oriented really. But if I have a goal for myself of trying to break the sound barriers (check out the "Whats the deal with evangelism" under the life on mission tab) everyday that helps.
