"And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God... For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." 2 Corinthians 4:3-4, 6 I really love 2 Corinthians 4 for so many reasons, but I don't have time to break everything down now. But what I love about this chapter is how it speaks about us being a light. We were brought into the light through Jesus Christ - once in darkness and dead in our sin. All our mistakes held against us, and our good never good enough, then turned into pure and spotless before God because Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead. THAT'S A HUGE DEAL!!!! Face it, the best thing that has ever happened to you - if you have made this decision - is accepting Jesus' work to take care of our sin for us. So what do you think would be the best thing for you to do with the light that you now have? Share it with others, right?! Like we learned from my friend in the previous post on this series on In The Light, we should be beacons for others to see the Light of the World! Here are 3 ways to be a beacon in the world we live in: 1. Make the most of every opportunity Colossians 4:5 says, "Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity." We should not waste our time - which is given by God Himself to point to Him in everything - on ourselves and for our own selfish ambitions. We need to use every assignment in school, every conversation, every Facebook post - every opportunity - to share the most amazing gift with others! Look for ways to bring in the gospel into what you already do. AND make time to go out and share the gospel with others, regardless if you know them or not! Life is far too short and fleeting to not do everything possible to share the best news in human history with others! 2. Ask good questions to lead the conversations you already have into the gospel. Specifically when it comes to the conversations you have, ask good questions to lead the conversation to the truth of Jesus. Please see my post on Asking Good Questions and walking through the 4 sound barriers t learn more on how move into the gospel with others no matter where you are or who you're talking to. 3. Do things that are at God's heart. God cares about a lot of the same things people care about today: sick, poor, widows, orphans, hungry, devastation caused by wars, floods, disasters, etc. This is a whole topic with tons of ideas on how to get out there and do something - but that's not the whole point of this. The point is that we should be the most active in "humanitarian work" so we can show Jesus' characteristics AND share the gospel with a lost and dying world. Remember Jesus' words in Luke 9:25, "For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?" Applying what Jesus tells us to do needs to always be in application with the great commission, otherwise people are going to miss out on the truth that will set them free. In my next post, I will be concluding this series on living in the light and hopefully bringing everything together About LeahLeah works with Master Plan Ministries at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. Other than watching college students' lives change, she enjoys getting her mind blown by God and His Word, watching sci fi, baking cupcakes, and spending time with her hunky husband. It can be hard, it's true, to break down what "living in the light" can look like on a day to day basis! And making the most of every opportunity can take a lot of different shapes as well, so I love these three that you have drawn upon so poignantly. Thank you for joining up with Unforced Rhythms.
