It is easy to go through the Christian life and never really hear and get a strong grasp on the essential issues that help us grow strong in our relationship with the Lord. Things like how to have a quiet time, how to grow, how to share the Gospel, why we still sin if Christ is really in our life etc. The Foundations Bible study will help you become confident and strong in your relationship with God. Check out the topics here.
Why Judges?
Judges is full of people with struggles and insecurities just like you and I. But not only can we relate to the people's stories in Judges but we can draw insightful and helpful principles that relate to us today and give us incredible glimpses of God's heart and character. It has been compared to a Old Testament mirror of the church today. We can learn a lot from seeing how the the Lord interacted and dealt with His people in a society much like ours. But not only is Judges a relate-able book for today, it's full of stories making it incredibly engaging. Read more about why here.
Do I have to get the Devotional for the Judges Growth Grow?
You do not need to have the devotional to be in a Growth Group but the Devotional will help you along through the book providing insights and applications you may not have thought of. A Devotional Journey through Judges is available in paperback or kindle. Read more about the devotional and what others say about it here.
What's the time commitment?
For both groups, the more you put into it the more you'll get out of it.
Foundations Discipleship: There will be three things given to you each week, a short article, a Bible study to do on your own and a short video. There will also be posted about three questions a week in your facebook group to discuss. All of these things combined should take around 30-45 mintues a week.
Growth Bible Study: You will be given a worksheet to help you work through a book of the Bible. The 4 P's Bible Study Worksheet will help you draw personal insights and apply the principles the Lord shows you. Laura is also going to give everyone a free kindle copy of the daily devotional. You will check in with your group each day after your time with the Lord (using either the daily devotional, worksheet or both) and once a week there will be questions to discuss. Think of this as accountability for having a daily quiet time and a Bible study combined.
What are the requirements?
Faithfulness, Availability, Teachability, Willingness to take the initiative and a Heart for God.
How do I join a group?
All you have to do is enroll and you'll get an email of what to do next.
Foundations Discipleship Group: Whatever works for your schedule. The article and a question will be put up on Monday's, the Bible study and a question on Wednesdays and a short video and question on Friday's. It would be ideal to check in three times a week for a few minutes whenever works for your schedule.
Growth Group Bible Study: You will check in everyday after you've had your quiet time and share something that stood out to you. Once a week discussion questions will be posted and you'll interact with those questions.
Is there homework?
Foundations: A little bit. The article and video will take around 5-10 minutes each to read/watch. The Bible study should take around 20-30 minutes.
Growth: Yes. For your daily quiet time you'll be given a worksheet, and a daily devotional. You can choose one or the other or use both.
Do you have to do the three session consecutively?
No. We recommend going in the order of Foundations first, Growth second and Action (which is currently being put together) third, but if one of the times of the sessions doesn't work for your schedule, you can just pick up during the next session.
