My husband and I get to spend our time talking to college students about Jesus. We consider it an honor and privilege to get to invest in the lives of young, unencumbered, seeking for answers mostly teachable people. Once a student catches the vision of why God created them and begins to take personal responsibility and ownership of the mission He’s given them, it’s exhilarating. Each year we get to see very dark students changed by the Holy Spirit into people willing to give up the American dream to live on purpose for God’s glory.
But for me the hardest part of our job is meeting new students. The harvest is plentiful and in order for anyone to hear the gospel we have to first get in a conversation with them. In our culture, this can be somewhat difficult without some thought and creativity put into it. So we experiment a lot with ways to meet new people. One way was by using facebook. I have a total of two house plants. One, my husband waters on a consistent basis. The other, both of us forget to water and is slowly on its way out. These plants are evidence of the principle that whatever you feed grows. Just as there are general principles in life, "If you churn cream, you will produce butter. If you twist a nose, you will produce blood. And if you stir up anger, you will produce a fight." (Prov.30:33) there are also general principles for blogging and seeing God build traffic. 1. Be Faithful with little The desire to have a giant blogging presence without the effort and hard work and years of perseverance can be tempting. Yet the Lord says in Matthew 25, talking about the stewarship of talents, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things..." We can generally expect that sustained blog traffic wont increase by thousands of followers overnight without being faithful with what we've been given. And we can generally expect that overtime the Lord will bless hard work and perseverance. Some ways to be faithful with little: Head on over to Christian Mommy Blogger to read the rest So whatever you feed grows and I've been reading whatever I can get my hands on about Christians using social media to expand God's kingdom. Did you know there are literally only a handful of books talking about it? Hundreds and hundreds about relationships and all sorts of things but just a few on using social media to make Jesus known.
So my friend Angi and I were inspired to write an ebook specifically geared toward practically equipping you with tools to make Jesus known through social media. But I thought you might like a place to go for regular tips on using social media as a believer on mission. On this new tab I am going to teach those new to social media how to do things with blogging like how to start a blog, link up a blog post, comment on blogs, make a button, come up with a focus etc. And with facebook and twitter, how and what to update, how to make and find meme's and so on. Beside basic how's to's, I am going to talk about how to incorporate the Great Commission into blogging, facebook and twitter. Things like how to share the gospel, start spiritual conversations, encourage believers to walk by faith, disciple friends, etc. You were strategically placed here, during this time period with a giant sphere of influence for a specific mission, to make multiplying disciples for the glory of God. I want to help you. Hope to have you back again and again. If you want these once a week-ish social media ministry tips delivered to you click here. |
