I'm the first to admit that I am not science minded. Taking Chemistry and Biology in college was once of my greatest tasks. But I do think it's cool that new discoveries are being made everyday and that those discoveries point to Jesus.
I was told of one of those great discoveries by a great friend of mine.
A man named Niel Harbisson has implanted a specific piece of technology into his... skull!
Neil has been color blind since birth due to the rare condition, Achromatopsia. After doing his own research and listening to a talk on cybernetics, he decided that he wanted to implant the eyeborg (in the picture above) into his head so he could do something that no one ever had before...
From my (admittedly limited) understanding, there is a camera on one end and an audio input on the other. Can you say crazy!?
Each color creates a different vibration in his skull, which creates a different sound in Neil's head!
If you're anything like me, you're thinking. This is bogus. There is no way that this could possibly be true. It is too impossible to hear color.
But then my friend and I began to talk about it and he made an amazing point. He said, "Jacque, think about Genesis One. God spoke everything into existence.
"And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day."
And God said let there be a vault between the waters...
And God said let the water under the sky be gathered...
And then God said let the land produce...
And then God said..
And then God said...
In Genesis One we get to watch our ultimate Creator... create. Just in the power of His voice He was able to speak the light, the sea, the plants, the stars, and the creatures that live on earth into fruition. You know what all of that involves? Color.
So, I'm not making the jump that through his crazy implant that Neil is able to hear God say these colors. But I am making the jump to say that the thought of hearing color is not a new thought at all. It has (very literally) been around since day one.
There is a big possibility that my friend and I are just nerds--reading into something too much. Or, maybe, this was God doing what He does best.. flaunting His glory through His creation.
