But before I share I just have to give some background info. Reading through Joshua and Ezekiel in the past God opened my eyes to His holiness. He let me see the reality of sin and what we truly deserve apart from Him. Amazing revelation that changes everything and really puts in to perspective and 'I deserve' attitude that I can so easily have. So, in Joshua and Ezekiel (and lots of other place for that matter) there is a lot of killing what seems to be like innocent people. But that is how our guilt before God plays in. But why? Over and over Ezekiel says "that they may know that I am the Lord."
Ok Ezekiel 38:14 on talks about the last days. How Russia and Iran will attack Israel. Which it seems to be that the stage is being set for that very thing. Anyway, what struck me was that God wants Russia to know that it is HIM that leading and allowing them to come against Israel. "Therefore, son of man, prophecy and say to Gog: 'This is what the Sovereign Lord says...You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud that covers the land. In days to come, Gog, I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me when I am proved holy through you before their eyes." (vs. 14,16)
I have thought before how amazing it must have been to live during a time when God did something so huge to show the nations that He was God. But it just amazing that it is not just then, way back in the OT. There are times yet to come.
"I will show my greatness and my holiness and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know I am the Lord." (Vs. 23)
