Movies are so powerful and I love ones that show what God is like. Slumdog Millionaire gave me glimpses of Gods heart and I love it!
God pursues us with an undying affection. Just like Jamal's love for Latika, that is a good picture of how God loves us. He doesnt give up in pursuing our hearts. As time goes by, He doesnt forget about us, but rather His love for us is just as real as it always was. And He wants us to pursue Him, to sacrifice all to run after Him and be with Him. Like when Latika escaped to be with Jamal and she got captured and cut as a result. Our pursuing the Lord with everything we have, will sometimes cost us all we have. He promised us it will cause pain but the pain is nothing compared to what we will experience for the choice we made to run after Him. When Jamal and Latika got to be together, he kissed her scar. Much like Jesus will do when we get to be with Him, He will wipe away our tears and take away the pain and it will be no more. Awesome! What a neat gift to give Him though, a show of what it cost you, what you were willing to give up for His name sake.
God is the great Rescuer. I have seen God rescue me over and over and over again. I have no doubt that He will forever come to my rescue by His grace. But somewhere in my heart there is a disconnect. That same faith I have that He will rescue me and redeem horrible circumstances in my life, I have a hard time believing about girls being sold into the sex trade and the lord's resistance army. Oh God, increase my faith. Help me see You as You truly are. Help me believe whats true about Your rescue and redemption of these kids.
So as I see how the movie depicted so clearly how each circumstance Jamal had been through was the very means in which his redemption came, I am so encouraged. We just cant see the way God does. Our timing is not like God's. Like the other day I was thinking about the movie Valkyrie (I love it so much). They were not trusting God and took matters into thier own hands and tried to assainate Hitler. This was the opposite of David who had the opportunity and reason to assasinate Saul, but he didnt. He said he wouldnt because God had appointed him as King. David trusted God's timing and sure enough God came through and God blessed the kingdom through David. I want to see kids stop being victimized now. And I can pray that way and work as though it is all up to me to end it, but the reality is that God is the one who will bring ultimate victory and ultimate rescue. And I can count on Him using thier experiences, even w
But just because everyone isnt freed right now, does not mean I can not praise Him for the ones that are freed. Jamal went from having nothing at all to having it all. That is totally what God has done for us who trust Him with our life! Wow. We had nothing to offer. We came into this world with nothing and will leave with nothing. Everything we have and ever will have was given to us. But God took us poor, having nothing to offer people and gave us His inheritance which is greater than a million dollars. It is greater than a million million dollars. We are the heirs of God's Eternal kingdom. What an incredibly gracious God!!
